Tips for Writing to Your Sponsored Child

Suggestions for Letter Writing

If you are writing to your sponsored child for the first time, here are some suggestions as to what you might like to include:

  • Write about yourself and your family, your pets, the sports and hobbies you enjoy
  • Tell them about life in Australia, eg, the different animals and birds, what the weather is usually like
  • Ask them about their new school, and their interests, what they enjoy doing outside school hours
  • Be sensitive about material things. Remember in some instances your child does not have a pair of shoes, running water or a warm house to live in
  • Keep your sentences short, your message simple - your letter will probably have to be translated. Printing is easier to read than some freehand writing
  • Do not raise their hopes by promising you will visit them

What else to include:

  • Send some photos, preferably showing you with your family, outdoors or doing a simple activity. Dress conservatively in day to day clothes
  • Draw something for them - or have your children or a little neighbourhood friend draw a picture
  • Include a postcard showing Australian animals, like the koala or kangaroo or perhaps some little sticker
  • Send a map of your country and mark where you live

How to Send Your Letters

  • At the top of the letter or card write your sponsored child's name and ID number, and your name and LFF number
  • Put your letter in an envelope
  • Address the envelope to your sponsored child and put their ID number on the top left corner of the envelope
  • Write your name and sponsor number on the back envelope flap but please do not seal. All outgoing mail needs to be checked by Team Fro to ensure the content is appropriate and in accordance with our Child Protection Policy
  • Put in another envelope, and write your name, address and sponsor number on the outside of the envelope
  • Post to Lille Fro, PO Box 312, Hawthorn, Victoria 3122, AUSTRALIA

Remember

  • Please do not include your address anywhere in the body of the letter. We wish to protect you from unsolicited requests for money or other support
  • Your address should only appear on the back of the outside envelope to help us in our record keeping
  • Please do not send money
